Gator Lake Farm (GLF) is a family operated, premier hay farm in Huntsville, Texas. Several of our fields have been in production since the introduction of coastal bermuda to Texas. Reportedly,
ours were the first fields planted in Walker County with sprigs from Georgia.
Specializing in horse quality square and round bales, our farm strives to offer high protein hay. Digestibility and palatability are primary concerns in our planning for the use of fertilizers and other essential minerals. Weed control is also a priority. Careful monitoring of grass and soil allows us to keep production at premium levels.
Working with Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and Producers Cooperative, GLF stays current on the latest production practices and product information. We attend seminars and have our grass and soil tested regularly by Texas A&M University Soil Service. In an effort to give back to our community, we conduct workshops for SHSU students multiple time a year. We share production information, demonstrate the latest equipment, and attempt to pass on to future farmers the desire to continue the farming tradition so essential to our county.
Winner of the Best of Show at the 2012 Walker County Hay Show, Gator Lake Farm supplies horse and cattle ranchers, feed stores, stables, hay brokers, and
many individuals. With large hay barns that store 50,000+ bales and our pivot irrigation system, our inventory is ready to meet your needs.
